| For the 15th year the Sacramento Fire Department and Sacramento Area Firefighters Local #522 are providing the cooking and delivery of Christmas meals for "Meals-on-Wheels," a part of the Senior Nutrition Program. This provides a day of relief for the citizens who provide the service every other day except Christmas and Thanksgiving; SMUD provides the meals and delivery on Thanksgiving.
Approximately 240 meals are prepared at Fire Station #2, 1229 I Street, starting at 0730 with delivery beginning at 0900. The meals are delivered by off-duty firefighters and their families to senior citizens in the Sacramento area who are not able to provide for themselves on a consistent basis or are "shut-in". This is a special event and gives much needed relief to some of the everyday heroes we have in our community that provide a service that is usually invisable. |
