SACRAMENTO – The Sacramento Fire Department is hosting its annual Promotional Ceremony on Thursday, March 16, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Center Atrium. The department will recognize 38 employees who have chosen to better themselves and the fire department within the last year and are now being recognized for their increase in rank.

The number of promotions to their respective ranks is as follows:

o 1 Deputy Chief
o 2 Assistant Chiefs
o 3 Battalion Chiefs
o 12 Captains
o 18 Apparatus Operators
o 1 Administrative Analyst
o 1 Typist Clerk III

There will also be a special presentation introducing the department’s newest member, Search Canine “Jakers” and handler Fire Fighter Jeff Ivy. Jakers is a 2-year-old Black Lab, Collie mix that has received over 9 months of kennel training. Fire Fighter Jeff Ivy has just completed the first eighty hours of certification training to become a search canine handler. “Jakers” will be pinned with his collar badge during the ceremony.
