SACRAMENTO – The Sacramento Fire Department was dispatched to a reported drowning of a 1 year-old male at 4516 Brookfield Dr. this evening. Engine Company 57 arrived to the residence minutes after the call and found a small crowd of people in the front yard. The baby was in the arms of a 9-year veteran Fire Fighter from the City of San Francisco who was giving mouth-to-mouth ventilations, which resulted in the baby to begin breathing on its own again.

There were four adults and three children in the home at the time the accident took place. The three young brothers, ages one, seven, and ten, were in a bedroom, which has a sliding glass door to the backyard, playing. The older brothers left the room for a few minutes when they heard their mother asking them where their baby brother was. They ran back to the room where they left him and were able to see through the slider to the backyard where he was floating in the pool.

The ten year old ran straight to him and was able to pull him out. The parents were frantic and a 911 call was made. One of the neighborhood children who was hearing all of the commotion new that a Fire Fighter lived in the house next door. The boy ran to get the off duty Fire Fighter, Johnny Williams, 38, who then met the family waiting for help in the front yard.

Sacramento Fire Department Medic 56 transported the baby to Methodist Hospital where it was initially treated and stabilized before being transported for further care at UC Davis Medical Center. The baby remains in critical condition this evening.
