| SACRAMENTO – At 3:17 p.m. the Sacramento Fire Department was dispatched to a fire on the second floor of Butler’s Uniforms. The caller stated that flames were coming from a window that just blew out of the two story building located at the intersection of 56th St. and H St. Engine Company Eight arrived minutes later and immediately called for a second alarm assignment to assist controlling the fire.
The fire was contained to a storage area on the second floor of the Uniform Store. Engine Company Eight had to force a door open at the top of an exterior staircase and found themselves right on top of the flames. The store is not open for business on Sundays and there was nobody there at the time of the fire. Sacramento Fire Department Investigators are continuing their investigation and at this time aren’t able to rule out electrical wiring as a possible cause. Only a small portion of the storage area was affected by the flames which were burning through boxes of uniforms. The initial dollar loss to the building and contents is estimated at $60,000. Fortunately the first floor where the majority of the merchandise is on display was unaffected by the fire. The response from the Sacramento Fire Department on the first alarm included three Engine Companies, two Truck Companies and ten support and command staff for a total of 30 Fire Fighters. The second alarm assignment was released due to the rapid extinguishment of the fire. |
