| SACRAMENTO - It is with great regret that the Sacramento Fire Department announces the passing of one of its own members. Matt Bera, an Apparatus Operator, passed away Saturday after battling occupational cancer. In February of 2004, Matt Bera was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Since that time, friends, family and colleagues have banned together to assist the family and host fundraising events to offset medical expenses not covered by insurance. A member of the Sacramento City Fire Department since 1995, Matt was recently promoted to Apparatus Operator. He began at the department as a Fire Fighter Paramedic. Matt leaves behind his wife of 15 years and three children, Megan, Lauren, and Nicolas. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2005 at the Capital Christian Center, 9470 Micron Avenue in Sacramento, at 10:30 a.m. More funeral details will be released later in the week.
