SACRAMENTO – At 2:58 a.m. the Sacramento Fire Department responded to a report of a house on fire at 4087 Deer Cross Way. Engine Company 57 arrived to find a home heavily involved with fire and the occupants of the home already evacuated. Two of the men inside of the home suffered injuries from the fire and were transported to a hospital for further care.

The occupants stated that they had no power to the home for the last 3 months so they use candles for lighting at night. There were also reports of individuals who smoke in the house regularly. When the fire started in the living room, all five occupants had to retreat to a bedroom and climb through a window to escape. They then had to go to a neighbor’s house to have them call 911 to report the fire.

Sacramento Fire Department Investigators are continuing to look into the cause of the fire. So far, they aren’t ruling out the candles or cigarettes as a source of ignition. A male in his 20’s was transported with first degree burns on his arm and shoulders, and a male in his 50’s has been transported for smoke inhalation injuries. The estimated dollar loss to the house and loss of personal property is $150,000.

The response from the Sacramento Fire Department included four Engine Companies, two Truck Companies, two Medic Units, and three additional support and command staff for a total of 30 Fire Fighters.
