| SACRAMENTO – At 1:04 a.m. the Sacramento Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in an apartment unit at 6800 Woodbine Ct. Engine Company 16 arrived to the complex and reported one unit that was fully engulfed in flames. As the company advanced a hoseline through the front door and began to knock down the flames, the crew came across a victim that had already succumb to the flames.
The single story apartment building has 8 units that are connected. There is one fire wall that divides the units in half and was able to keep the flames from spreading across the attic space. Three residents in the adjacent units have had to request the assistance of the American Red Cross because of the minor damage their units sustained. Sacramento Fire Department Investigators were called to the scene and have not yet determined a cause of the fire. The damage to the building and loss of personal property is estimated at $65,000. One Fire Fighter also sustained minor injuries from heat stress and had to be transported to a hospital for further evaluation. The response from the Sacramento Fire Department included four Engine Companies, two Truck Companies, one Medic Unit, and eight additional support and command staff for a total of 34 Fire Fighters. |
