Strip Mall Fire - Three Alarms

SACRAMENTO - At 12:38 p.m., several 911 calls were made reporting a fire in a strip mall in the vicinity of Stockton Blvd. and McMahon. Fire Companies arrived minutes later and reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the single story business along Stockton Blvd. A second alarm was immediately called for as the fire continued to grow in the common attic space above Fire Fighters. A third alarm was placed bringing several resources to the scene, shutting down Stockton Blvd. from Fruitridge to Lemon Hill.

An employee of a the restaurant that was heavily damaged by the flames stated he was experiencing some electrical problems. He had called an electrician to the business, but before the electrician arrived he was taking a look at his breaker box and witnessed the fire start. He said he saw the box start to pop and arch and flames quickly spread up the wall in the back of the restaurant that was occupied at the time.

Sacramento Fire Department Investigators are currently on scene and will examine the evidence for the accuracy of the employee’s statement. There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire. The estimated dollar loss to the damaged building and loss of property is estimated at $75,000.

The business’s affected by the fire on Stockton Blvd. are; Pacific Hair Design at 5964, Pho Anh Dao at 5966, and the Vietnamese restaurant at 5968. A Beauty College that is also part of the strip mall at 5970 had to evacuate approximately 15 students and employees but did not get damaged from the fire.

The response from the Sacramento and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District included nine Engine Companies, five Truck Companies, two Medic Units, and 18 support and command staff bringing the total to 74 Fire Fighters.
