SACRAMENTO – The Sacramento Fire Department would like to thank all of the media who have assisted in making the July 4, 2005 celebrations a success. Through the media the department was able to educate the greater Sacramento Area on tips how to enjoy their fireworks and prevent injury or the loss of property. The following statistics represent the emergency services that were provided by the department in a 24-hour period on July 4, 2005:

130 Medical Aid Calls
32 Fires (Grass, vehicle, residential)
59 Other emergency incidents (Internal alarms, haz-mats, vehicle accidents)

221 Emergency Calls in total

Although the call volume was high for the Sacramento Fire Department, the amount of personal injury and loss of property from the use of fireworks remained very low as compared to years past. Again, the department feels this is a reflection of the people in the Sacramento area who are being more responsible as a result of the message that you help us carry.
