At 4:55 p.m. the Sacramento Fire Department was called to the intersection of Los Robles and Alvarado Boulevards to investigate a potential hazardous condition. A high tension electrical power transmission line had been struck by a vehicle sometime last night. Fire Fighters found several cross members that help stabilize and strengthen the structure were bent along with a fracture to one of the support legs holding the transmission tower upright. The footing of that leg was also compromised. Fire Fighters called for SMUD and P.G. & E. representatives to respond to the scene immediately to analyze the potential for the tower to collapse and possibly having the 115,000 volt lines come in contact with the homes below. Those homes were evacuated as a precaution for the safety of the occupants. The Sacramento Police Department was called to assist with evacuations and isolation of the area along Alvarado Blvd. A Transmission Troubleman from P.G. & E. arrived at 6:29 p.m. and determined the structure in minimal danger of failing and was secure enough to stop evacuations. He called for additional resources from P. G. & E. in order to make temporary repairs on the transmission tower. Complete repairs will be placed on a schedule to reinforce the tower to original strength. The response included two Engines, two Trucks, one Battalion Chief, and four command and support personnel for a total of 21 Fire Fighters.
